Abstract
This paper reviews field experience of produced water re-injection. Recent improvements in understanding the processes which control reinjection are described, demonstrating the key role of rock mechanics in enabling successful reinjection of large volumes of dirty water via waterflood induced fracturing. Methods for predicting injection well behaviour using models which couple reservoir simulation with rock mechanics, and tools for investigating fracture geometries are presented.
