Gas production decreases as gathering line pressure increases. Gas production from fields populated with plunger lift wells may be especially sensitive to increased gathering line pressures. One method of lowering gathering line pressure and improving gas production is to install field compressors. Gathering line pressure in fields utilizing field compressors may still fluctuate for various reasons beyond the control of the operator. Varying compressor speed can help stabilize the gathering line pressure normalizing and improving gas production. This paper will describe a project designed to investigate the effects and practicality of automating the speed control of field compressors.
