This paper discusses the history of energy tax reform, as well as the outlook for future changes. Particular emphasis is placed on an explanation of the tax provisions granted to the industry over the years to search for and produce domestic oil and gas and the gradual reduction in those provisions. The paper goes on to discuss the future of energy tax reform, including the impact of a possible import fee.
