Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied in various digital oilfield applications, but primarily for subsurface analysis in areas such as artificial lift optimization or production process integration (Sandoval et. al., 2010). While oil and gas continues to be one of the primary producers and consumers of digital data (Heggelund, 2009), other similarly data and operationally intense industries use advanced predictive analytic technologies that could be applied across industries to reduce downtime on offshore platforms. Such proven capabilities are now being applied to data from rotating and reciprocating equipment on the topsides of offshore assets to develop predictive models that can be used to prompt preemptive actions before a critical and economically expensive downtime event.
