Several deep wildcats, spudded in 1984 and 1985, were drilled or are still drilling in extremely hostile environments with total depths of more than 20,000 feet. Special tubulars and connections had to be specified, manufactured and tested to reach TD with an 8-1/2″ bit size safely. Mannesmann was present with the pipe and connection technology from the initial planning stages through running of the fallowing long and heavy strings:

Some of the measures which were taken to improve and assure product quality and performance in order to satisfy all load and environmental requirements will be discussed in this paper.
