In early 1995, the International Association of Drilling Contractors will implement its Well Control Accreditation Program, known as WellCAP, throughout most parts of the world. WellCAP marks the first attempt by the drilling industry to put in place a comprehensive system to define a core well control training curriculum, establish minimum standards and recommended guidelines for course structure, and provide a means of formally recognizing schools which meet the association's accreditation criteria. Originally intended primarily for use in emerging and undeveloped areas, the program has since been proposed as an alternate method of approving well control schools in the U.S.
