The three extra large harsh environment jack-ups (ELJU’s) currently under construction take North Sea jack-up capability into water depths exceeding 110 metres.
In addition to providing highly productive and safe exploration drilling capability, these units are also versatile tools for platform and template installation and drilling operations.
Significant facility cost savings are possible from ELJU applications.
Perceived risk of project exposure to rig non-availability or high dayrate may however deter Operators from selecting this drilling option and taking advantage of potential cost savi ngs.
This paper highlights cost saving applications. It also shows that there is a progressive, convergent, controlled-exposure path to contracting an ELJU and maximising potential cost savings in project situations.
