The paper will review the construction and content of a new document format which has been selected for use in Shell drilling operations contracting. The review of content will cover a range of items including liabilities, obligations, scope of work, specifications and equipment requirements. The application of the new format to incentive and turnkey drilling operations will be reviewed together with the implications on Operator/Contractor roles in the execution of these types of contract.

The desire to increase operator efficiency is leading a change from supervising the contractor to managing the contract. The implementation of this change will be discussed.

Quality assurance leads to more cost effective operations. The application of QA to drilling operations contracts will be introduced.
