To effectively exploit a by-passed underpressured Devonian (D3) pinnacle reef, a horizontal re-entry was planned. Due to the presence of a gas cap and a nearby solvent bank in the reef it was essential that hydraulic isolation be achieved when cementing the build section liner in order to prevent gas migration during oil production from the new wellbore.

Coiled tubing was utilized to clean the formation face prior to cementing; foam-cement was then used to isolate the near wellbore and coiled tubing was once again used to clean out any excess cement from blocking the borehole prior to drilling ahead and cementing the liner.
