A land-based coiled tubing rig with a Cyberbase workstation as its control station is currently in operation. The control system for this rig, including the distributed I/O and PLC networks, man machine interface, data acquisition and logging functions are described. Particular attention is paid to the digital control, automated drilling, tripping and safety shut-down functions. Benefits of the design include reduced cost, rig weight, rig up and tear down time and improved ergonomics for the operator.
