Until recently, the length of BHAs run into live wells has been limited by surface lubrication length. A tool string deployment system (TDS) has been developed over the past two years and now has a proven record. The case study presented involves running 140m of 3 3/8" guns along a horizontal well. The guns were conveyed on 2" coiled tubing with a cable installed.

These large assemblies require careful engineering and programming to enable coiled tubing to deploy them in highly deviated wells. The paper discusses techniques that have been employed to reduce the drag of the BHA and coil. A clearer understanding of modeling and job planning is evolving and the paper addresses the pitfalls of working coiled tubing to the material limits.
