Scale is often encountered in producing well bores. This paper presents five cases where soluble scale has been removed through an optimized approach of coiled tubing conveyed tools and hydrochloric acid. A comparison between different methods available to the industry is made. The paper covers removing carbonates, sulfides and cement from sub-surface safety valves and gravel pack screens. Field comparisons have been made between simple bull heading of solvents, impact hammers, motor and mills, simple jetting nozzles, and optimized jetting tools with solvents. The combination of solvents and tools with optimized hydraulics is shown to be highly effective.

The results are presented with increase in production rates where applicable. Three examples are shown where increase in production ranges from 50% to an 8-fold increase.
