Abstract
This paper describes the development of a PC-based Matrix Acidizing Expert System (Acid Expert) with emphasis on the knowledge acquisition process and the knowledge bases. This system is currently being used to design damage removal treatments for sandstone formations. The primary objectives of the system are (1) to provide acidizing treatment designs based upon an accumulation of knowledge from experts, (2) to provide technical information and guidelines on the proper use of additives and (3) to serve as a training tool to assimilate company expertise for less experienced personnel.
Application of this expert system to treatment design is illustrated using a documented case history. The subject case history deals with a sandstone reservoir for which significant changes in the treatment procedures were recommended and implemented based upon the knowledge base built into Acid Expert.
