The Etchegoin B sand contains significant thermal recovery potential, but core data at Mobil’s Lost Hills 2 lease indicated unusually low oil saturations in the upper third of the reservoir. The geology of the B sand and its affect on fluid saturations is discussed. A pilot was designed and implemented to test steamflooding the B sand, and 16 months of performance data are presented.
