"Tailored" zeolites, made by exchanging amines onto natural zeolites, were studied as an adsorption medium for the removal of BTEX from saline produced water. The major components in natural zeolites are smectite, clinoptilolite and cristobalite. BTEX levels were reduced a minimum of 70 to 85% in the produced water after treatment. X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the natural and tailored zeolites.
