This paper (1) provides an overview of the problems "dissolved oil" cause when oil-field brine is surface-disposed, (2) reviews the origins of "dissolved oil" in produced brine and recommends that techniques be developed to predict its character and concentrations based on oil samples and geology, (3) reviews the processes to remove "dissolved oil" from produced brine, and (4) reviews the EPA-mandated test for oil in produced brine in respect to "dissolved oil" and suspended oil.
