ABSTRACT
An almost exact closed form analytical solution for the transient pressure behavior of a fractured well in an infinite domain is obtained by a new approximation technique of broad applicability. This solution is shown to yield a simple analytical expression for type curves which can be used to determine fracture length from a pressure build-up curve. It can also be used in a pressure interference test to determine fracture orientation. Most importantly, this paper is a tutorial for applying this solution technique to other well completion configurations.
