Since 1985, Oryx Energy Company has used horizontal drilling and completion technology in the Pearsall Field of South Texas for increasing production rates and developing reserves in the naturally fractured Austin Chalk formation.

This paper reviews the application of various stimulation techniques in horizontal wells based on field experience with over 20 Austin Chalk wells. The lateral hole lengths range from 150 to 4,800 feet. The three stimulation methods discussed are water fracs, acid washes, and acid fracs.
