This paper outlines an analytical technique for estimating well drainage areas in bounded or "semi-bounded", multiple well reservoirs. The technique is based on calculating reservoir pressure throughout the field in question and producing pressure maps over that field. From the pressure mapping, streamlines tracing the path of fluid towards the well can be plotted and drainage areas discerned. A method has been derived whereby the areal water cut development of a well and sweep efficiency can be estimated.

The technique is applied to a number of problems including the effect of flowrate variation on well drainage areas, infill drilling, well abandonment, water injection and horizontal well drainage in the vertical plane.
