The M3 and M1 gas fields offshore Sarawak experience exhibit aquifer support that is stronger than expected and markedly non-uniform in nature. This has resulted in rapid water breakthrough in 4 out of 7 development gas wells in M3. This paper describes the surveillance and remedial activities that were implemented to respectively monitor the aquifer rise and the associated water production and to reduce the detrimental impact of water breakthrough on gas well capacity.
