The Mexican petroleum industry aims to stabilize and increase oil production, through drilling HPHT shallow-water wells. The proposal is to drill with Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) to reduce the projects’ costs and non-productive times (NPT). The proposal involves identifying HPHT wells with narrow windows and severe control fluid loss, a defined geomechanical model, and operational excellence integration. Tests are performed during the execution to calibrate the model in real time. The proactive use of MPD in well P-102 resulted in a significant reduction in control fluid loss and drilling times. The focus on prevention and engineering allowed a profitable execution of HPHT projects, reducing the risks and costs associated, with control fluid loss and NPTs, and maintaining the well integrity under complex conditions.
