The worlds of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) in the Oil & Gas space are often considered worlds apart: different goals, different strategies, and different stakeholders. While there is much focus around the convergence of technologies across these domains in support of process optimization and data exchange, organizational aspects come into play which create a multi-dimensional challenge for major capital projects (MCPs) deploying a wide variety of information systems. This paper discusses the broader spectrum of convergence, and shares insights and lessons learned from delivering complex systems integration programs for world-class Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) MCPs.
