Abstract
Being a supervisor or manager in the oil and gas industry is challenging under the best of circumstances. Responsible for multiple priorities, but with limited time, many site leaders find it difficult to include safety tasks in a meaningful way. Yet, these leaders are influencing safety all the time through their decisions and actions. This paper discuss the specific ways oil and gas leaders are already influencing safety and how they can integrate concrete practices to improve safety and operational performance right now. This paper also outlines key safety activities for supervisors, how these activities are directly related to the leadership practices that drive safety, and how to leverage them for supervisory development and organizational safety improvement.
