A newly developed method that solves the vorticity transport equation in the non-inertial frame of reference is proposed in this paper to simulate the flow past a rotating cylinder. It is a fully viscous method, in which the local phenomenon of vorticity is exploited. The spatial concentration of vorticity leads to a significantly small computational domain and a substantially small number of cells, which results in much less computation time. The present method was applied to simulate the flow past a rotating cylinder in quiescent flow and the flow around a rotating cylinder subject to uniform inflow. The calculated results provided good agreement, which validates the proposed method.
