The interaction between a general hull and a Dynamic Positioning (DP) thruster is investigated using a hybrid method which couples a Vortex-Lattice Method (VLM) solver for the thruster and a Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solver for the ambient flow and the surrounding boundaries. The simulated flow field is examined so as to assess the significance of the thruster/hull interaction in the dynamic positioning system.
