The marginal field development is not about technology, but about providing solutions at a cost that is within the marginal economics of the development. In ultradeepwater, this can involve “game-changers” in technology that will reduce the investment. Such a solution is presented in this paper, using a mini semisubmersible, combined with steel catenary risers.

The key to success is to reduce the motions compared to the conventional semisubmersible design, without significantly increasing the cost or complexity during fabrication and installation.
