For the purpose of simulating marine heavy lift transports and installations of major facilities, the SafeTrans tool incorporates a Captain Decision Mimic (CDM) to allow for better voyage routing based on the encountered weather and vessel response. The goal of this paper is to present a case study which optimizes a voyage simulation using the open-source Dakota optimization package. Three objectives for the voyage are examined: the encountered significant wave height, the voyage time exceeding operational limits, and the total voyage time. Voyages are analyzed for a self-propelled transport case during a specific departure date, and compared with recorded voyages of captains on a separate simulator.
