This paper will examine software integration methods to automate the process of generating Finite Element Analysis mesh models directly from CAD design models to support analysis of large ship structure lifting configurations. It will outline the approach of leveraging production lift configuration output from the CAD system as the basis for an FEA mesh model to simulate the expected lifting operation, including associated lifting components and orientation of the structures in question. The paper will be aligned with the results of a 2018 funded NSRP RA project called "LiftShip", the technical approach with the integration of the CAD to FEA products will be studied. The integration will leverage direct feedback from shipyards and design agents that have established FEA processes for lift analysis as the basis of this technical approach.
