The calculated performance of composite fiber panels is compared to the use of traditional crimped steel wall panels for providing blast protection on a vessel. The hypothetical designs for both systems are evaluated for a blast loading of 0.2 MPa with a positive phase duration of 150 milli seconds (ms). The analysis is performed using high fidelity finite element calculations for the basic comparison. The wall systems are quantitatively compared in terms of wall deflections and installed weight, and other advantages and disadvantages of the systems are discussed qualitatively.
