A method to replace the seals in the fin stabilizer pocket on the upper and lower trunnion of the fin stabilizer while a ship is waterborne has been developed. By using a lightweight, easily transportable and extremely strong fabric structure to seal off the fin stabilizer pocket, time will be conserved with rigging and de-rigging. The method was tested at the Miami Diver, LLC test tank, Miami, Florida. This paper illustrates that the proposed method can be used safely to replace the outer fin stabilizer seals in normal at-dock operating conditions which ultimately will save the time and expense of having to dry-dock.
