Electromagnetic (EM) telemetry method is utilized to transmit data in measurement-while-drilling (MWD). Its kernel is about efficient and accurate calculations of the EM fields near the drill rod. There are several methods utilized to calculate the EM fields around drill rod, such as the numerical matching method (NMM), finite element method (FEM). These methods are not appropriate to calculate the EM fields of the model with deviated drill rod. Zeng et al. (2018) used the electric field integral equation (EFIE) method and method of moments (MoM) to calculate the EM fields in the case of horizontal or deviated drill rod. They used triangle basis function and Galerkin method in MoM, which is featured for accurate but efficient calculations. The formulation process is complicated. Moreover, it’s not easy to program. This study aims to develop an easy way to calculate the EM fields near the drill rod by EFIE method and MoM. In details, pulse basis function and point matching method are utilized in MoM.
