Using migration-based methods, we developed a workflow to obtain high-quality time picks for microseismic event data. The workflow crosscorrelates manually picked waveforms of template microseismic events with waveforms from the remaining events to refine the first arrival time picks of P and S phases. We applied our workflow to 50 minutes of microseismic data from a hydraulic fracturing monitoring campaign. The workflow provides high-quality picks for 689 out of a total of 805 detected events by using three representative template events. We validate the time picks by comparing event locations using the crosscorrelation picks with locations from the migration based method. The workflow improves time-pick accuracy, which subsequently may be used to improve associated source parameters and other attributes that require a precise time-pick of the signal onset.
