ABSTRACT

Surface relaxivity values were estimated from laboratory nuclear magnetic relaxation diffusion relaxation time (2) maps and used to predict pore-size distributions and permeability. Data were collected on 13 water saturated sandstone and dolostone rock cores. For 9 of the cores, the pore-size distributions and permeability were well predicted from this approach; however, for 4 of the cores estimates of surface relaxivity could not be determined due to poor fits. This study demonstrates a new approach for predicting permeability that can be applied in the field without the need for laboratory calibration of permeability models.
