ABSTRACT

Hydrocarbon prediction from seismic amplitude and amplitude-versus-offset remains a difficult task. Reliable fluid indicators help to reduce the risk of hydrocarbon prediction and increase the rationality of drilling plans. Motivated by this fact, this work is directed to find out an alternative attribute based on Poisson dampening factor to reduce ambiguity. In this paper, we extend the Poisson dampening factor (PDF) by adjusting the c parameter in Poisson impedance and propose the general Poisson dampening factor (GPDF). With numerical modelling the effectiveness of GPDF attribute is tested and the results show that GPDF can predict the presence of hydrocarbon in different porosity scenarios with less ambiguity due to the incorporation of rock physics constraint. Demonstration of using GPDF attribute with well data and seismic inversion data in real data set is conducted and successfully screens out the hydrocarbon sands.
