We developed a compositional model to evaluate the primary production and future performance of Niobrara and Codell in the Wattenberg field. Compositional modeling involves tracking (1) the whereabouts of the molecular components in the reservoir to determine their effect on production and (2) the three-phase flow of water, oil and gas in the reservoir. To build the model, an integrated workflow was developed, with input information from geology, geophysics, petrophysics, completion and production data. The simulation model was validated by history matching two and a half years of reservoir performance and rate-transient analyses. The model was further tuned by integrating with the observed reservoir seismic response. Finally, the ethane-based gas injection enhanced oil recovery (EOR) was evaluated as a potential process to increase oil recovery in the field.
