At the Geophysics Hackathon in Denver last year (Hall, 2014a, b), we set out to find out what it looks like when random people on the Internet interpret seismic data. Over the course of the weekend event, Team Pick This built and demonstrated a prototype web application for image interpretation. Between October 2014 and March 2015, over 400 people contributed 1000 image interpretations and even voted on each other’s contributions.
The free-to-use, open-source tool has several applications in geoscience and medical image processing and interpretation. At the time of writing, we are developing Pick This scientific research into image interpretation, and plan to demonstrate several use cases in 2015 as we seek funding to develop the tool further. We are actively looking for supporters and source code contributors.
