We describe an inversion for the moment tensor valid for general anisotropic media, demonstrated using Green functions from a layered VTI ray tracer. The moment tensor is decomposed so as to remove the distortions due to anisotropy local to the source and a new 3D graphical representation is introduced for intuitive visualization. The workflow for real data is reviewed on a dual well monitoring job from the West Pembina field in Alberta. Included is the important step of VTI model calibration where the layered model may be tilted. Multi-stage results are qualified using a posterior uncertainty metric; interpretation of the results is ongoing.
