We present a new interpretation technique for potential field i.e. gravity magnetic and self potential based on the inversion of total gradient (TG) derived from horizontal and vertical derivatives of the anomaly. TG is calculated by the horizontal and vertical derivatives and is approximated by a bell shaped function, the inversion of which give the position, depth and geometry of the source. The inversion process has been carried out by Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), a technique inspired by the behavior of ant colonies. Using this approach we have disposed off the singularity in Euler technique in case of a faulted thick slab and unlike other techniques such as Euler Deconvolution and Enhanced Local Wavenumber, it does not require a window of pre-specified length. The results obtained by this method offer higher resolution of interpretation and agree well with the drill hole data.
