ABSTRACT

Reflection coefficient of P- plane wave normally incident upon a vertical stack of fluid-filled fractures can be accurately approximated by a simple analytical formula. Incident wavelength is assumed to be much larger than the layer thicknesses. The obtained result is verified by comparison with finite-difference modeling. The reflection amplitude is a linear function of fracture system porosity and possibly can be used for porosity mapping of vertically oriented fractured rock.
