Summary

Seismic convolutional model permits us to enhance bandwidth if embedded wavelet is reliably known. A bandwidth enhancement workflow is discussed based on high-order cumulant wavelet analysis. Uncertainties in extracted wavelet require quality control to optimize bandwidth while minimizing side effects. In order to retain the potential for bandwidth enhancement, we recommend to review and design seismic acquisition and processing workflows in light of wavelet preservation, in addition to imaging and amplitude preservation.

Introduction

Resolution is defined as the ability to separate two features that are close together (Sheriff, 2002). Visual resolution of seismic data is directly related to its frequency bandwidth.
