Summary

Some remarkable multiples are evident in 3D seismic survey from complex areas, which become a big threaten for enhancing signal-to-noise ratio and the reliable velocity analysis and migration. This paper describes a newly developed 3D beamforming technique of attenuating some target multiples in 3D seismic data. In consideration of the complexity of 3D geometry, two key ideas are given in 3D beamforming design. First, 3D seismic data are sorted along azimuth sections to simply the relationship between traveltime and offset from 3D to 2D to avoid the high cost and unstable results. Secondary, the dynamic binning scheme is introduced to avoid the possible poor folds in some azimuth sections so as to keep the stability and obtain good resolution of the results. Both synthetic and real data examples show that the target multiples are well attenuated by using 3D beamforming technique.
