Summary
A single velocity layer static model is available throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; this simple method is adequate for most areas. In areas with remaining large near surface anomalies layered models with control from first breaks have proven to be successful. These models have proven successful in improving the image focusing and reducing the uncertainty in amplitude of the structures. As exploration looks at smaller structures, and in areas where the assumption of no dip is not valid, further development will be needed to enhance these models.
Introduction
The near-surface in Saudi Arabia can be predictable but with topography consisting of wadi, sabkha and surface sand there are large areas of great complexity.
