Summary
The inverse problem associated with recovering a 3D conductivity model from geophysical EM data has been solved using a QMR-FFT fast integral equation forward modeling algorithm embedded in a regularized Gauss- Newton optimization driver. The fast integral equation algorithm is used to solve the forward modeling problem for a heterogeneous conductivity model divided into a large number of cells. The inversion minimizes both the data misfit and a model functional. The functional is designed to produce a smooth model and regularizes the inversion.
