In this paper we show that individual fields (Ex;Ey;Hx;Hy and Hz) measured in a CSAMT survey can be inverted separately or jointly to recover conductivity structure of the earth. Traditionally apparent resistivity and phases that are nonlinear transform of the field components are inverted to recover conductivity structure of the earth. We compare the results from inverting the field components to the apparent resistivities and phases. Results from synthetic inversions indicate that in the presence of noise the model recovered from field component inversion is better than that obtained by inverting apparent resistivity and phases. The flexibility of inverting individual field components gives us some insight into the information content of each field component in different regions of the survey.
