Through Devito, an open-source Python package, DAS VSP shot gathers were simulated using finite-difference numerical modeling to study the effect of dip on PP and PS reflection amplitudes. The PP reflections were stronger in the geophone Vx and the PS reflections were more pronounced in the geo-phone Vz. With a 10° dip, the geophone particle velocity Vx displayed stronger PP reflections updip and weaker PP reflections downdip. However, the geophone particle velocity Vz displayed stronger PS reflections updip and weaker PS reflections downdip. The DAS strain rate primarily recorded the geophone Vz given the model wells predominantly vertical trajectory.
