Radon atom (Rn-222) comes from alpha decay of radium (Ra-226). Both isotopes are a part of uranium U-238 decay series which naturally occurs in the environment. Radium (Ra-226) can be found in most of minerals building earth’s crust. Rn-222 atoms can emanate from mineral grain and then are transported through the soil by convection and diffusion processes. Escaping of radon gas from soil to atmosphere occurs by exhalation process.
