Comparing the conventional prestack AVO inversion based on least square strategy, the prestack basic pursuit inversion can obtain the blocky elastic parameters which suit to reduce the ambiguity in interpretation. But the traditional prestack basic pursuit inversion doesn’t obtain stable S-wave impedance and density results. Given this problem, we propose a novel prestack inversion by incorporating basic pursuit optimization and the modified Fatti approximation which can characterize the correlations between the elastic parameters using the information of Castagna and Gardnar empirical equation. The real data testing verifies that this inversion method not only can obtain the blocky elastic parameters but also can stabilize the inverted S-wave impedance and density.
