THE CONTINENTAL RESERVE AND DELIVERABILITY SYSTEM DEVELOPED BY CONTINENTAL RESOURCES COMPANY IS A COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM THAT PROVIDES AN AUTOMATED SOURCE OF INFORMATION FOR OIL AND GAS: RESERVES, PRODUCTION AND DELIVERABILITY INFORMATION. IT WAS DEVELOPED BY CONTINENTAL RESOURCES COMPANY FOR FLORIDA GAS TRANSMISSION COMPANY AND FLORIDA EXPLORATION COMPANY, WHICH ARE SUBSIDIARIES OF CONTINENTAL RESOURCES COMPANY. THIS SYSTEM WAS A JOINT PROJECT OF DATA PROCESSING, EXPLORATION AND PIPELINE PERSONNEL AND AS A RESULT HANDLES OIL AND GAS INFORMATION FROM BOTH THE BUYER'S AND SELLER'S VIEWPOINT. THE FOLLOWING SLIDES ARE ACTUAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ON-LINE TERMINAL. SINCE THEY CONTAIN MUCH MORE DATA THAN CAN BE ABSORBED IN THE TIME ALLOTTED TO THIS PRESENTATION, A COMPLETE SET OF THESE SLIDES AND THE TEXT ARE AVAILABLE FOR DETAIL ANALYSIS AT A LATER TIME.

MAJOR USER FEATURES

ON-LINE OPERATION

THE SYSTEM PROVIDES ON-LINE UPDATE AND RETRIEVAL OF INFORMATION WHICH MAKES THE SYSTEM EASIER TO USE, MORE TIMELY, GIVES IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO REQUESTS OF INFORMATION, AND THE INTERACTIVE CHECKING OF ERRORS PROVIDES A MORE ACCURATE AND RESPONSIVE SYSTEM.

FLEXIBLE REPORTING

THE FORMAT AND DETAIL CONTENT OF THE SEVERAL REPORTS PRESENTLY BEING PRODUCED ARE SPECIFIED DIRECTLY BY THE USER THROUGH THE USE OF ON-LINE PARAMETERS.

COLOR GRAPHICS

ON-LINE COLOR GRAPHICS SHOWING PRODUCTION AND DELIVERABILITY RATES ARE PRESENTLY BEING DEVELOPED. HARD COPY FORMATS OF THE ON-LINE GRAPHICS SCREENS ARE PROVIDED THROUGH A FOUR-COLOR MATRIX PRINTER.

AUTOMATED CALCULATION

VARIOUS AUTOMATED CALCULATIONS OF RESERVE AND DELIVERABILITY ESTIMATES HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED INTO THE SYSTEM. THE CALCULATION OF RESERVE AND DELIVERABILITY ARE UNDER THE DIRECT CONTROL OF GEOLOGISTS WHO MAY ADJUST AND MANUALLY OVERRIDE THE SYSTEM WHERE REQUIRED. THIS WILL PROVIDE A MORE ACCURATE SOURCE OF INFORMATION AND REQUIRE LESS TIME ON THE PART OF GEOLOGISTS.

DATA SECURITY

ACCESS TO INFORMATION IS RESTRICTED THROUGH THE USE OF AN INDIVIDUAL PASSWORD FOR EACH USER, AND THE TERMINAL HE IS USING. THIS DOUBLE LEVEL OF SECURITY INSURES THAT ONLY AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL MAY HAVE ACCESS TO THE INFORMATION IN THE SYSTEM. ADDITIONALLY, ALL INFORMATION IN THE SYSTEM IS BACKED UP EVERY NIGHT, AND IN THE EVENT OF SOME DISASTER, THIS INFORMATION COULD BE RESTORED.

FEW COMPUTER CODES

THE SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED TO RESPOND TO THE NON-DP PERSON'S NEEDS, THEREFORE, VERY FEW CODES ARE REQUIRED OF THE USER. THE BASIC ACCESS METHOD TO ALL DATA USES ONE OF THREE METHODS: THE ALPHANUMERIC NAME, THE SELECTION OF THE NAME FROM A LIST, OR ENTERING THE CODE NUMBER THAT PERTAINS TO THE DESIRED INFORMATION.

MAJOR TECHNICAL ASPECTS

IBM 370/138

THE SYSTEM RUNS ON AN IBM 370 MODEL 138 AND HAS ONE MEG OF REAL STORAGE AND SIXTEEN MEG OF VIRTUAL. IT HAS TEN 3330 MODEL 11 DISK DRIVES AND FOUR 2400 MODEL 7 TAPES.

DOS/VSE

THE OPERATING SYSTEM IS DOS/VSE RELEASE II.

ON-LINE CONTROL BY CICS

THE TELEPROCESSING CONTROL IS DONE UNDER CICS WHICH RUNS IN CONJUNCTION WITH VTAM AND THE NETWORK CONTROL PROGRAM. THESE DRIVE TWO 4800-BAUD LINES THAT CONNECT THE HOUSTON OFFICES WITH THE WINTER PARK, FLORIDA, COMPUTER CENTER.
