Renewable Gas (RG) producers are encouraged to create projects for interconnecting with natural gas pipelines. Concurrently, natural gas utilities are exploring new ways of analyzing pipeline system health and capacity. Ultimately, the goal is to evaluate pipeline systems to accommodate the additional supply. SoCalGas has a large service territory covering most of Southern California. SoCalGas' vision is to be the cleanest gas utility in North America, delivering affordable and increasingly renewable energy to our customer, and has committed to a goal of having at least 20% of gas in our system supplied by renewable sources by 2030. Performing hydraulic simulations to understand the benefits and impact of additional supplies will get us closer to our vision. SoCalGas has been analyzing hydraulic systems using DNV-GL Synergi Gas Software. In this paper SoCalGas will present and discuss our work and the design criteria required to meet pipeline safety regulation, system capacity, and pipeline system health and integrity.
