The offshore industry has continuously evolved in the quest to unlock more subsea reserves with higher recovery rates. Among various innovations, the utilization of advanced subsea systems, such as subsea pumps and seawater treatment, has emerged as a cost-efficient method for enhancing recovery while requiring minimal modification to existing topside infrastructures, enabling greenfield developments and long tiebacks.

Subsea seawater treatment for water injection offers several inherent advantages over topside treatment. Notably, its modular approach and simplicity increase flexibility for reservoir engineers, enabling effective reservoir management by facilitating water injection at any desired capacity, location, and time. Moreover, the ability to provide customized water for injection into oil reservoirs represents a transformative opportunity for offshore oilfield production companies, enabling them to produce more, faster, and with reduced emissions.

This paper aims to share the key design aspects of a subsea seawater treatment and injection system, covering the key technology components, operational experience, system integration, and achievable water quality.
